Our Take:
On the HBO television series Treme, Janette Desautel, a struggling but brilliant New Orleans chef, is forced to close her restaurant after Hurricane Katrina and fend for herself amongst the cutthroat New York culinary scene, full of big egos and even bigger TV star top chefs. While she finds success in the Big Apple, in her spare time she continues to create jaw-dropping Cajun fare from her beloved hometown. Like many other Southerners, Cajun is more than just a type of cooking, but a lifestyle. The newly opened sister restaurant of The Bulldog in Uptown and Lowertown, Bullfrog Cajun Bar, is taking on the monumental task of creating authentic, yet universally palatable, southern comfort Cajun food. Take it from Andrew Zimmern - they have succeeded. Treat your aromatic and taste senses to one-of-a-kind dishes, from classic po'boys to pecan crusted catfish, lobster, frog legs and other dishes that would gain the fictional Ms. Desautel's stamp of approval.
Reviews:
The newly opened Bullfrog Cajun Bar between Uptown and Downtown Minneapolis boasts a solid 3.5/5 star average from recent Yelp reviewers:
"
Love Cajun food. Being there aren't a lot of options in the Twin Cities, I wasn't keeping my hopes up, but the po'boys and the sweet potato fries hit the spot. Good hush puppies, too. Not too shabby! "

"
Something has to be said when hot sauce is already at the table! My first visit to Bullfrog was awesome. We walked from Kenwood towards downtown and decided to give it a try. Especially because we are big fans of Bulldogs I had the Cider Beer and the Chicken Plate. Best Greens I Have Ever ATE! Chicken was moist and the honey butter was the perfect touch for bullfrogs take on corn bread. I can't wait to try everything on the menu! "
